Not that I blog on a daily basis anyway, but I should mention that I don't know if I will be able to post anything this week because of the snow. When it snows in rural southern Maryland, we lose our electricity. In fact our electricity goes off when it snows, when there is thunder, when there is heavy rain, or other times just because it can. So naturally when the first flake of snow landed in the early hours of this morning, our electricity was cut off. And seeing as our local infrastructure doesn't extend to piped water, but relies on water pumped electronically from backyard wells, no electricity means no water supply either.
Fortunately, our electricity company is very responsive: their taped message assures me that they know I have no power and will fix it "when they can", and please don't call again. In the meantime, the Cyberias are living in a local hotel with vending machine food, intermittent internet access, a toilet that flushes with the sound of a 747 beginning its final descent, and a cable package that consists entirely of Emeril. I will be back online whenever our electric company - I think it might be Halliburton - can be bothered.
