I really like the new Widget I've got on the sidebar (Feedjit), which shows where the most recent one hundred visitors to this blog have come from, by displaying a little national flag on their location. It's very rewarding to write a post at my desk in the eastern U.S., and think of people reading it half a world away.
I like it all the more since I looked at it this afternoon, and realized that whenever I get a reader from New Mexico, Feedjit identifies them by displaying the national flag of Mexico!
I don't why I find that so funny. It must be because of all the hysteria we have in this country at the moment about Mexicans coming here to change our way of life and steal our jobs. (Cause if it weren't for them, we'd all just be queuing up to fill back-breaking jobs picking produce in Salinas or gutting chickens in filthy warehouses in Iowa). You don't have to watch U.S. cable TV for long to realize that we still have one thriving manufacturing industry, and its the one that manufactures fears about being swamped by billions of brown-skinned immigrants flooding across our southern border.
If Lou Dobbs uses Feedjit, this will give him a fit.
